The 5 Costly Mistakes You’re Making on the Pickleball Court (and How to Fix Them FAST) |
Ever feel like you should be winning more games… but somehow, you keep getting beat by players who shouldn’t be beating you? You’re not alone. Most pickleball players (even the good ones) are making 5 sneaky mistakes that are quietly sabotaging their game. Fix them, and suddenly: Let’s jump in. ❌ Mistake #1: Standing Too Far Back from the Kitchen
That’s probably because you’re hanging too far from the kitchen line. 👉 Fix it: Get your toes on the line (or as close as possible) after every shot. If you have to move back? Move forward again ASAP. ❌ Mistake #2: The "Too High" Third Shot Drop
Your third shot drop isn’t a “drop” if it lands waist high for your opponent. That’s called a “Here, take this free smash” shot. 👉 Fix it: Keep it low and unattackable. Think grazing the net tape instead of floating into the strike zone. ❌ Mistake #3: Smashing Like a Tennis Player
Nothing feels better than blasting a winner... until your opponent blocks it back like it’s nothing. The hard truth? Power alone doesn’t win games. 👉 Fix it: Instead of hammering everything, focus on placement. Hit behind them. Make them stretch. Set up easy putaways instead of forcing one-shot kills. ❌ Mistake #4: Not Watching Your Opponent’s Paddle
Ever get caught totally off guard by a shot? Like… “Whoa, I didn’t see that coming?” That’s because you’re not reading their paddle. 👉 Fix it: Pay attention to their wrist and paddle angle. Open paddle = dink. Closed paddle = drive. This one tweak alone will make you feel like a mind-reader on the court. ❌ Mistake #5: Playing Too Safe at Game Point
Match is at 9-9… do you go into “don’t mess up” mode? If so, congrats—you just handed your opponent control of the game. 👉 Fix it: Play to win, not to "not lose." If you’re aggressive, attack. If you’re a defender, make them miss. But whatever you do, don’t tighten up. Bottom Line: Most players don’t even know they’re making these mistakes. But once you do? You start winning more—fast. Which mistake are you guilty of? Hit reply and let me know! See you on the courts, Armando Alejandro |
