Is Pickleball Becoming a "Mean Girls" Sport?

Pickleball is supposed to be fun, social, and welcoming. But… not everyone’s feeling the love.

Some players—especially newbies—have found themselves on the outside looking in, dealing with cliques, court hogs, and even straight-up bullying.

Is This Really a Thing?

Yep. It’s not in the news, but if you dig through forums and social media, you’ll find plenty of stories:

🚧 Court hogs – Some groups act like they own the place, refusing to let others in.
💀 Brutal criticism – Getting mocked for mistakes instead of encouraged.
🎤 Trash talk gone wrong – Banter is fun… until it turns into intimidation.

Have People Quit Over It?

Sadly, yes. Some beginners get so discouraged that they just stop playing. And that’s a shame, because pickleball was meant to be for everyone—young, old, pro, newbie.

How Do We Fix This?

A little kindness goes a long way. Here’s what we can all do:
Invite the newbies – Remember when you were new?
Keep the banter light – Fun? Yes. Mean? No.
Rotate fairly – No “exclusive club” vibes on public courts.
Speak up – If someone’s ruining the fun, don’t stay silent.

At its best, pickleball is about community, competition, and a dang good time. Let’s keep it that way.

Ever run into bad sportsmanship on the courts?

Shoot me reply—I’d love to hear your thoughts.
